SECTION 8: ADVANCED WEEDCRAFT, GROWHOUSE MECHANICS & PLAYER HOMESTEADS

As players gain experience in The High Fantasy, their connection to cultivation deepens. This section provides detailed systems for growing magical cannabis strains, managing and defending homesteads, experimenting with strain alchemy, and building an entire lifestyle around Weedcraft mastery.


8.1. Growhouse System Overview

Players may establish a Growhouse, a customizable base that allows cultivation, crafting, upgrading, and community interaction. It becomes a core mechanic for long-term campaigns, offering a hub for downtime and strategic resource management.

Starting a Growhouse

  • Requires: A plot of fertile land (DM determined), 50g in tools/seeds, and a successful Weedcraft DC 15
  • Growhouse types:
    • Green Den (Stealth-focused)
    • Solar Grove (Magic-focused)
    • Trimmertown Lot (Urban, trade-focused)
    • Living Grove (Sentient plant companion grows with it)

Growhouse Stats

Each Growhouse has these basic stats:

  • Yield Cap: Number of plants that can be grown at once
  • Processing Slots: Number of products you can process/cure simultaneously
  • Defensive Rating: Resistance to raids/sabotage
  • Aura: Passive area bonus (e.g., +1 to HC rolls while in the Growhouse)

8.2. Cultivation Mechanics

Grow Cycle Steps

  1. Planting
    • Requires seeds, soil, container or terrain type
    • Roll Weedcraft (DC 10–20 based on environment)
  2. Veg Phase
    • Duration: 1 week (in-game or downtime)
    • Optional boost: Apply magical soil, moonlight essence, or strain ritual
  3. Bloom Phase
    • Duration: 1 week
    • Roll to maintain light/water/nutrients (Weedcraft DC 12–18)
    • Success = increased yield or purity
    • Critical Success = generate a Strain Spirit Bud
  4. Harvesting
    • Players choose:
      • Raw Yield (more product, lower potency)
      • Refined Cut (less product, higher magical potency)
  5. Processing
    • Cure in jars, press into wax, bake into edibles
    • Each product form requires a tool and DC roll

8.3. Growhouse Upgrades

Players can use gold, rare materials, or favors to upgrade their homesteads. Upgrades are modular.

  • Requires: Two unique strains, Clone Lab (or ritual), and a Weedcraft DC 18+
  • On success: Create a new Hybrid Template with 2 base effects
  • On failure: Roll on Strain Mutation Table
  • On crit: Create a Legendary Phenotype—strain may become sentient, mobile, or infused with elemental properties

Example Hybrid Creation:

  • Skywalker OG (Indica) + Lemon Haze (Sativa)
  • Result: Dream Zest – When smoked, gain slow fall and advantage on Insight for 1 hour

8.5. Growhouse Events & Threats

Your homestead may be targeted depending on location, upgrades, and campaign arc.

Possible Events:

  • Pest Invasion: Terphoppers or Sporespawn feed on plants
  • Smokeless Raid: Must defend the house with traps, allies, or negotiation
  • Clone Theft: Blackglass agents attempt to steal your genetics
  • Overgrowth: Your growhouse becomes sentient and demands respect
  • Strain Spirit Emergence: A legendary plant awakens within the soil

Each event may become a full quest or defense encounter.


8.6. Growhouse Staff & Allies

As operations expand, players may recruit or befriend NPCs.

  • Circle of Lineage: Call on ancestral Growcerers for crafting guidance
  • Vapor Gateway: Open a portal to the Smoke Plane and barter with strain spirits

Blunt Unity Ceremony: Fuse party members’ energy into a single mega-roll that empowers the group
