SECTION 9: THE SMOKE PLANE, SPIRIT REALMS & DIVINE BLUNTS
Beyond the physical lands of the Budlands lies a transcendent dimension shaped by thought, strain memory, ancient rituals, and cosmic terpene currents. The Smoke Plane is the metaphysical realm of elevation, dreams, and divine weed magic. It is accessed through vision quests, rituals, sacred strains, or powerful blunts burned in unity.
9.1. The Nature of the Smoke Plane
What Is It?
A parallel dimension made of vapor, memory, sound, and sacred greenery. A place where time folds, souls drift, and strains whisper forgotten truths. Here, ideas become terrain and cannabis culture is the very fabric of existence.
Plane Traits
- Vapor Reality: Physical laws bend—characters float, melt, or resonate
- Strain-Echo Fields: Locations hold psychic imprints of legendary strains
- Shared Consciousness: Thoughts may bleed into one another unless protected
- Terp Currents: Invisible winds of flavor and memory, used to travel
9.2. Accessing the Plane
Methods of Entry
- Smoke Rituals: Group hotbox with rare strain and spell scroll
- Strain Spirit Guidance: After a vision quest or personal revelation
- Divine Blunt Ignition: When three or more Divine Blunt holders meet
- Overelevation: High Check roll of 30+ causes spontaneous crossing
- Myco Portals: Found deep in the Mycel Den or other fungal rifts
Time Mechanics
- 1 hour in the Smoke Plane = 10 minutes in the Material Plane
- Returning can be automatic, gradual, or require solving a “high riddle”
9.3. Layers of the Smoke Plane
- The Haze Veil
- Entry layer, dreamlike and shifting
- Populated by lost thoughts and floating strain particles
- Risk: Memory echo traps (relive your worst or best puff)
- The Grove of Origins
- Home of the Heartseed’s memory root
- Can grant strain visions, divine pacts, or bonus SP
- Often guarded by strain guardians or mutated ideas
- Resonant Fields
- All sound is music; must speak in rhyme or be silenced
- Terpene chords alter terrain and summon strain spirits
- Possible boons: Song of Terpsight (see through deception)
- The Circle Eternal
- Central hub of spirit discussion, philosophy, and exchange
- No combat allowed unless Circle Law is broken
- Roll Wisdom (DC 18) to gain prophecy or relic vision
- The Ashen Void
- Smokeless region of doubt and grief
- Encounters: Shadows of the Self, lost ancestors, the Anti-Blunt
- Purpose: Test players with regrets and ego collapse
9.4. Strain Spirits
Strain Spirits are sentient avatars of specific genetics, manifested by reverence, repetition, or ritual use. They speak in terpene tones and can aid, test, or haunt players.

The Forgotten Blaze | Unknown | Rumored to be a blend of every strain ever smoked |
Players may bind a strain spirit with ritual and empathy, gaining access to its aura, spell, or crafting bonus.
9.5. Divine Blunts
Divine Blunts are legendary relics rolled with cosmic herb, enchanted wrap, and sacred fire. Only seven are known to exist. Lighting one shifts reality, parts the Smoke Veil, and calls the eyes of every spirit.
Known Divine Blunts
- Blunt of Unity
- When passed among 3 or more players, all gain telepathy and +2 to all rolls for 1 hour
- Can only be burned once per lunar cycle
- Blunt of Return
- When smoked at death’s door, allows a player to revive at 1 HP
- Contains ashes of an ancient Growcerer
- Blunt of the Eternal Flame
- Burns forever in the Temple of the Great Blunt
- Used to ignite strain rituals and purify corruption
- Blunt of Reversal
- When burned backwards (filter first), rewinds one in-game event
- Extremely rare and dangerous—may break time itself
- Blunt of Smokeform
- When consumed, turns the smoker into a smoke elemental for 3 rounds
- Grants flight, spell immunity, and echo-speech
- Blunt of the Living Soil
- Contains essence from the heart of the Living Soil
- Grants access to secret strains and the ability to speak to all plants
- May trigger emergence of Kiera, the guardian of soil memory
- Blunt of the Ancients
- Lost. Said to be rolled by the First Flame of the Heartseed
- Rumored to contain the true name of the world
9.6. Vision Mechanics and Smoke Quests
While in the Plane or smoking divine strains, characters may enter Vision States, narrative explorations guided by the DM.
Vision Mechanics:
- Trigger: Ritual, critical hit, near-death, full Circle
- Duration: 1–10 rounds or minutes
- DM Narration: Present a memory, mystery, or alternate future
- Rewards: Lore, prophecy, rare seed, or Spirit Companion
- Risks: Failure to interpret may cause madness, strain clash, or ego loss
Optional Rule: Players may share a Group Vision if they smoke the same legendary strain together in a Circle.
