CHAPTER 6: ITEMS, INVENTORY & PERSONAL TOOLS

“The right tool can shift a vibe. The right pipe can win a war.”


In The High Fantasy, inventory isn’t just about utility—it’s about personality, ritual, and expression. The gear you carry reflects how you roll (literally and figuratively). From sacred grinders to terp-sensitive cloaks, your tools are your identity. And sometimes… your salvation.


6.1 Inventory Basics

Each character begins with:

  • A class-based Starter Kit
  • 1–2 strain items (rolled, edible, or concentrate)
  • 1 ritual item or token (flavored to background)
  • 10 “Nugs” (basic barter currency)
  • 1 Personal Piece (chosen or crafted)

Carry Limit:

  • You may comfortably carry up to 10 major items (excluding gear worn)
  • Additional items impose encumbrance unless stored in Stash Bags or Growhouse Lockers

6.2 Starter Kits (By Class)

6.3 Personal Ritual Items

You may choose or craft one ritual item at character creation. These do not give combat bonuses but provide:

  • Roleplay value
  • Puff trigger for spells
  • Unlock special moments in Circle or Vision quests

Examples:

  • The Stone of First Puff – smooth pebble passed down generations
  • Ancestor Wrap – cloak stitched from old strain bags
  • The Cracked Lighter – never fails to spark… but only once per day
  • Memory Grinder – turns strains into dreamdust for rituals
  • The Empty Jar – no one remembers what it once held, but it hums softly near smoke

DMs may allow these to evolve over time into Relic Tools through roleplay.


6.4 Pufftech & Puffgear

Here are some standard and unique gear items adventurers commonly use:

6.5 Currency & Trade

While the Budlands doesn’t revolve around gold, there are established currencies.

Clone CreditsTraded between growers to secure genetic rights

Some areas also barter with:

  • Edibles
  • Music verses
  • Strain maps
  • Favors

6.6 Stash Bags & Growhouse Lockers

Stash Bags are portable, enchanted, or cleverly packed gear storage units.

Types:

  • Standard Sesh Sack: 10 item slots, weatherproof
  • Infused Satchel: Preserves strain quality +1d4 sessions longer
  • Mimic Bag: Looks like a random object, hides gear from searchers
  • Circle Knot Pouch: Only opens during a Circle

Growhouse Lockers act as home-base inventory:

  • Unlimited storage for grow supplies
  • Secure clone trays
  • Ritual archives
  • Sometimes possessed by previous cultivators (RP opportunity)

6.7 Personal Add-Ons

Flavored equipment built for flavor and RP bonuses. Examples:

  • Flavor Crystals: Change the strain’s taste mid-puff
  • Mood Rings: Glow based on your strain alignment
  • Wrist Clip Lighter: Light as a reaction, once per round
  • Scent-Cloak: Prevents enemies from detecting strain trail
  • The Pocket Spoon: For puff-only combatants (doubles as a dagger)

6.8 Ritual Trinkets & Cursed Tools

Some items carry spiritual weight—or strain-borne consequences.

Relics:

  • Jar of Laughing Smoke: Puff it once, laugh for hours—see truths
  • The Rolled Scroll: A joint that, when lit, begins telling your future
  • Ash Mask: Lets you enter another’s last memory (DC 18 HC to exit)
  • Half-Burned Wick: Your soul is tethered to this flame. If it goes out… so do you.

Cursed Tools (DM Discretion):

  • Forever Grinder: Can’t stop. Keeps grinding your dreams.
  • Melted Vape Mod: Once was tech—now hums with ancient strain spirit
  • Sticky Bomb Pouch: Will go off randomly unless properly puffed at sunrise
